Spirit Clown

Sharing Filipinx-Centred Practices of the Spirit World Through Play and Storytelling

  • Lukayo means “clown” and “trickster” in Tagalog. In Bikol, it means something even stranger…
  • The intention of Spirit Clown sharings is to play communally with the experience of reality. We play with the “paradox” that all beings are connected in a woven cloth of relations and also free in a luminous void that encompasses the illusion of Self. In this playing, there is the possibility of sanctuary and increased awareness of our choices.
  • I use the term “sharing” because I understand myself as a clown that is sharing the stories of my mistakes and discoveries with others, and if that guides or supports growth in others, what a bonus! Those who attend the “classes” are also sharing their stories as well, so this is a communal effort.
  • Spirit Clown is based on the following:
    • The animistic practices of traditional Bikol and Tagalog (sometimes known as Filipino) medicine;
    • Anti-oppressive practice;
    • The playfulness of the trickster/clown; and
    • Nonduality
  • Spirit Clown sharings is not the following:
    • Not a lesson or a teaching. Though it can be received as such, you may already know it in your body and spirit, so it may be more of a reminder.
    • Not a healing session. Though it can be received as such and may be healing for some, many of us can’t be healed from ongoing oppression; often ongoing oppression needs to be resisted before healing can begin.
    • Not an act of justice. Though it can lead to it by being aware of how to relate better with each other and how to organize coalitions against oppression.
    • Not just entertainment. Though it can be fun, some of us require integrity instead of performativity, and for others, everything is a performance in the way we have to navigate the stage of a world not built for us.
  • Spirit Clown sharings are currently based on a gift economics model. For more information, check out the Donate page.
  • Sharings will most likely be online using Discord and/or Google Meet, unless otherwise noted as in-person or if I’m booked by a group of people who want in-person sessions.
  • Spirit Clown sharings are not just for Filipinx people (except for the Dawani program), though it centres my experiences as a Bikol/Filipinx person.
