Poetry Workshop: Performance
July 20, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
- We will be exploring and discussing techniques on how to present your poetry, including memorization, pacing, movement, stage blocking, body language, and tonal shifts. What are the emotions in your piece and how do you convey them? How can the themes in your piece be reinforced by hand gestures and the volume of your voice? How would you incorporate dance, music, and/or props? We’ll also discuss if we’d like to go to an open mic as a class or organize a poetry show and present our work there.
- You will need to bring written poetry and be prepared to share it so you can practice performance techniques. You’re encouraged to bring the poetry you’ve worked on from the last three workshops.
Poetry Workshops with Lukayo:
Enjoy 4 free introductory workshops on aspects of writing poetry. Each workshop takes place on a Thursday, from 6-8pm. These two-hour sessions will be in a hybrid format– in person at Kind Space and also over Zoom. You are encouraged to come to all 4 workshops, but you don’t have to. Paper and writing utensils in-person are provided, but also feel free to bring your own. This is for all ages, though children 12 years and under must be accompanied by an adult. Teenagers aged 13-17 are required to leave Emergency Contact Information. If you don’t register in advance, there’s still a chance we can let you into the workshop at the door, as long as we haven’t reached maximum capacity.
